Puntarenas is the largest fishing port along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and one of the most important tourist destinations. Besides being a beautiful port city, which hosts many festivals throughout the year. There are festivals to celebrate the Arts, regional dishes, music and masquerades, but come February, the celebrations of passage for one of the biggest annual festivals in the region.

Every year Costa Puerto Ricans and tourists, the head of this coastal town for a 10, yes 10, days of the festival called the Carnival of Puntarenas. Known as the Queen of Carnival Costa Rica, hundreds of thousands flock to it, making it one of the biggest parties in the region. With their season perfect dry weather making it the perfect time for this celebration, many events can enjoy the beach and remove limits on the fun at this carnival. The coast becomes, because creating new structures to accommodate the festivities. There will be unlimited food, beverages, entertainment, concerts, stage well into the night and morning early. It's a party that never seems to end, for these 10 days minimum.

On the first day of Carnival, the election and coronation of the Queen of Carnival takes place in the center of the Plaza Pacífico, and is followed by a coronation ball and fireworks to mark the beginning of the festival.

You will find outdoor nightclubs with deejay set the right mood with their mixtures. The streets and beaches are crowded with merry-makers (sometimes also known like drunks), while music that seem outpouring of each wall keeps you mesmerized.

The real part, though it begins with a carnival parade in the first day of last weekend, starting with the Municipal Beach and heading through the Paseo de los Turistas. This massive carnival parade is filled with carnival parade (groups organized many of the dancers) and carnival alive (think big smiling painted heads) throughout the week.

Soon, you will succumb to the party and finds them wanting more. Of course, you will not notice the police helicopter overhead, gently reminding all revelers are not * alone.

The last night of the festival is definitely exciting. Whether in music bands, floats, samba routines or whatever routines costume dance flavor, Puntarenas will not disappoint. Enjoy and soak up the festive atmosphere, thanks to his good fortune to be present to witness one of many celebrations of life.
