We all dream of finding that perfect piece of antique furniture in the yard sale or auction, but remember you only have to make the purchase if they can recognize its value in the first place! While only a professional appraiser will be able to get the true story of a particular piece of furniture, you will find that when we stand in a few pieces of information in mind, have a fighting chance the next time you come across a great piece of antique furniture!
First, make sure you are familiar with the styles you like. Do you have a love for Chippendale, or have a real love of Shaker pieces? If you are looking for specific pieces, make sure you are well versed in the common aspects and reasons of style, what is the best way to ensure that no one escapes its reach.
When you are searching for antique furniture, learning to recognize veneer. Basically, this process involves conducting a "channel" of a cabinet cheaper wood and then using thin slices of wood to cover it more desirable.
